Two-factor authentication asks for a 6-digit code from your phone in addition to your password. It is the single most effective thing you can do to protect the account.
Turning it on
Go to Settings → Security. The Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) card shows an Enabled or Disabled badge. Click Setup Two-Factor Authentication.
Step 1: Scan QR Code. Open an authenticator app — Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, or similar — and scan the code on screen.
Step 2: Enter Verification Code. Type the 6-digit code your app shows, then click Verify and Enable 2FA. You will see Two-factor authentication has been successfully enabled!
Save your backup codes
Do not skip this step.
Important: Store these codes securely. Each code can only be used once to access your account if you lose access to your authenticator app.
Click Generate Backup Codes, then Copy All Codes, and put them somewhere safe that is not your phone — a password manager, or printed and filed. Then click I’ve Saved My Codes - Return to Settings.
There is a Skip for Now option. Taking it means that if you lose your phone, you lose access to the account and will need to contact support to recover it. Spend the thirty seconds.
You can view your codes again later from View Recovery Codes on the same card.
Signing in with 2FA
After your password you will be asked for the code:
Two-Factor Authentication Enter the verification code from your authenticator app.
Type the 6 digits and click Verify.
If you do not have your phone, click Use a recovery code instead and enter one of your backup codes. Each one works once.
From the desktop app
The Compressor asks for the code too, right after your password. Same code, same app on your phone.
Turning it off
Disable 2FA on the same card — Two-Factor Authentication has been disabled successfully!
If you are locked out
If you have lost your phone and your backup codes, email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will verify your identity and help you back in.
If setup fails
You may see Initialization Failed with a Try Again button. After five attempts it stops and asks you to try later or contact support. It is usually a temporary problem — wait a minute and try again.
