The colours

Each day is labelled on the left — Mon 7/7 — with a 12 AM to 12 AM axis across the top.
No Recording is not Empty
Grey means the camera was not producing photos then: it was off, the card was full, the batteries were flat, or the run had not started yet. Grey is not counted as empty time, and green is only drawn where the camera was actually recording.
This matters when you read the summary numbers. A day that is half grey has half a day of evidence, and its contribution to your averages reflects that.
A lot of grey is itself a finding. Grey appearing every day at the same time usually means a card or power problem; grey from a certain date onward usually means the camera stopped.

Part of a longer event means the red block continues past midnight into the next row — the timeline splits events at day boundaries so they can be drawn, but the duration figures do not double-count them.
Unusual days
A day that is markedly emptier than the rest gets a red ring around it. That is a prompt, not a verdict — go and look at what happened.
Patterns worth looking for
Red in the same place every day. The most actionable pattern there is. Red every morning from 3 to 5 means feed runs out before the morning delivery, every single day. Either the evening feeding is short or the morning one is too late.
Red spreading later through the week. Delivery times drifting later day by day, so the bunk empties for longer before each one.
Purple ticks bunched in the day, none overnight. Common, and often costly. Cows eat overnight; feed pushed out of reach at 10pm stays out of reach until morning.
Blue ticks with no purple after them. A delivery that got no push-up service. The Push-ups After Delivery chart measures this directly.
One day unlike the others. Weekends and holidays are the usual suspects. Worth knowing whether your Sunday routine is genuinely different.
